"Be Still and Know" Silent Retreat

Shhhhh! Silence! Do you know what silence is? Do you know how to be silent? In today's fast paced society filled with radio, television, MP3 players, honking horns and ever ringing cell phones, silence seems to be an unknown entity. Imagine a day without noise. A day lost in the stillness of the sounds of God's creation. A day without WORDS even! The Lord told Elijah, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." It was not in the wind, the earthquake or the fire that Elijah heard the voice of God, but "in His gentle whisper." (1 Kings 19:11-12) Has life just been too loud lately for you to hear the gentle whisper of the Lord? If so, I invite you to experience the "sounds of silence".

High Pastures Retreat and Conference Center in Burnsville, North Carolina provides the perfect setting for a time of complete solitude. We will begin the evening of Day One together with praise and worship, Bible study, prayer and a time of personal commitment. It will be an evening that will set the tone for the "sounds of silence" on Day Two....a day set apart to simply focus on the Lord and listen for His still small voice. A day without WORDS! You may invest your time however the Holy Spirit leads....in Bible study, prayer, journaling, hiking beautiful campus trails, sitting by the swiftly moving streams or simply resting by the roaring waterfall. You may even want to hike up to the prayer tower, relax by the still waters of the spring fed baptismal pool or take a much needed nap in your private room. By Day Three your body will be refreshed, your mind will be restored and your spirit will be revived. We will begin the morning with breakfast together, followed by a time of praise and worship and the voluntary sharing of our "experience" on the mountain in the presence of the Lord. So..."Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, he will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths." Isaiah 2:3

Former retreat participant comments.....

"In order to have 'intimacy' in a relationship you must have time alone. Our relationship with the Lord is no different. The silent retreat enables you to do what is so difficult to do in everyday life...that is, focus on the Lord with no distractions. I promise, you will not leave as you came." Teresa

"....one of the biggest blessings I have ever had. It was all I could have hoped for and much more. God was certainly with us." Cherie

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! My silent retreat weekend was one I will never forget. A time of no interruptions, no thinking about what needed to be done. It was a time to just BE in His presence and KNOW Him." Elsie

"After a day of uninterrupted silence, prayer and meditation, I left renewed, refreshed and blessed with a stronger personal relationship with my Lord" Betty

"It was the best retreat I have been on. I loved the quiet and the solitude...not to mention the absolute beauty there, and the the time for sharing. What a great balance." Nancy

"Come Away With Me" Retreat

"Jesus said to them, “Come away with me.
Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while.”
Mark 6:31a (Worldwide English)

The"Come Away with Me" retreat is an introduction to a silent retreat and is set up on the same premise as the "Be Still and Know" retreat.

The evening of Day One begins in the conference hall with praise and worship, scripture focus, prayer, a journaling emphasis and a time of personal committment setting the tone for the weekend.

Day Two awakens at the Baptismal pool with a time of prayer and consecration followed by breakfast in the cafeteria. After breakfast, Session One starts with praise and worship, Bible study, prayer and a time of personal inventory and reflection. Following lunch, Session Two will begin with a trip to the Prayer Tower and a time of consecration that ushers in the "sounds of silence" for the afternoon. Dinner time in the cafeteria marks the end of the time of silence and is followed up with praise and worship in Session Three and a voluntary sharing of our "experience" on the mountain in the presence of the Lord.

The morning of Day Three begins with breakfast followed by the final session. Session Four closes out our weekend with praise and worship, prayer and a closing scripture focus.
